East TN Waterfalls

East TN is home to some of the best hiking trails in the state--and some of the largest and most stunning waterfalls. And the great news? They are close to each other. Combine some of these waterfalls for a quick weekend trip.

CUMMINS FALLS STATE PARK

Primarily two hiking trails:

  1. Overlook Trail--very easy and accessible for individuals of all ages and abilities.

  2. Base Route--moderate route (approximately 2.4 miles) with a steep trail down to the river, where you will continue until finding the Falls. Make sure to wear water shoes! At the end, you can enjoy the view, take a dip in the swimming hole, or enjoy a snack. You WILL need a permit to take this trail. You can get one at Gorge Access Permits | Tennessee State Parks.

FALL CREEK FALLS STATE PARK

Plenty of hiking trails BUT you can complete a majority of them in a day.

  • Fall Creek Falls Overlook Trail

  • Base Trail | 0.8 miles | Moderate to Hard

  • Overlook Trail | 0.65 miles | Easy

    • One particularly overlook will appear to be blocked by rocks; however, climb down and over these rocks to see a panoramic view of the woodlands.

  • Paw Paw Trail | 2.5 miles | Easy

    • Combine this with the cable trail (0.10 miles) to create a more strenuous adventure leading down to Rockhouse Falls
